Milton Glaser Concept Board Summary

Research:

Brainstorm:
Milton Glaser: His artwork intrigued me because I feel that his artwork is so basic but creates a combination of pieces of art that a appealing to the eye. For example he is famous mostly for the I LOVE NEW YORK design. It’s so simple but also a universal piece of art that everyone knows and that what I enjoy. I enjoy artwork that everyone can learn to appreciate.  My first impression was that his artwork is beautiful because of its simplicity.

Motion Graphics: I was intrigued by motion graphics because I feel it is such a natural form of art. My first impression was that it a unique type of art because it is the body doing different poses and it looks almost as if the picture was taken of their movements in fog.

Illustration: My first impression of illustration is that I believe it is a good use of graphic design because it helps advertise an idea using words and pictures uniformly. I like that although it seems like a lot is going on in the picture, everything comes together to create a unique meaning.

Compiling/Concept Board Summary:
I am choosing to do my concept board on Milton Glaser. Milton Glaser is mostly known for his creation of the logo I Love New York. His work is so unique because he influences all of society and not just one distinct group in society. His work is appreciated by both genders, and all ages from being really little to elderly. I think that enhances his uniqueness because his artwork can be appreciated by all. He is unique because he has a gift to know what interest kids, adults, and just people in general. For example, with kids he has created graphic design pieces for a zoo. That influences kids because kids love zoos and pictures help intrigue kids. With adults he has created posters government like posters which is an influence for adults because the adults in our population are the people that vote in government elections. Lastly he influences people all over the world. An example of this is his I Love New York logo. Everyone around the world knows that symbol because it has become universal and the majority of people living have some sort of object with this logo on it. Milton Glaser is an amazing graphic designer and his work influences everyone around the global. He has inspired me and I think that his work is beautiful, relatable an amazing and that is why I chose him for my concept board.

Letter Project Reflection

Reflection:

1. My process was not to helpful at all. Just because during my process I switched m design and then my letter and then my design again. Once I got to my final design I was fairly happy because I distinguished what parts of my design would be done first. For example I drew out my whole design in pencil first. Then I started doing certain parts of the project in color pencil. Second to last I colored the whole background sharpie and lastly I used the hardest materials which is pastel to color in the actual letter. I would say my process in the beginning was some what difficult and then eased out in the end.

2. I arrived to my concept as follows. I was sitting in my seat with two days to finish the project. I was going to create a snake and Ms. Li kept telling me in needed to be different and as I a staring at my paper with the S drawn already I took a minute and though about was I actually enjoyed because snakes really meant nothing to me. Right then the idea of swimming and water popped in to my head and I thought of a stream because of the letter S. I wanted the background to be blacks because streams are usually are usually hidden and I thought of grass and rocks again because of the forest and that is how I got to my idea.

3. The most challenging aspect of the project was the created part. I am not a creative person at all and I dislike art very much. It took my forever to get to my idea and it wasn't as creative as the ones that my other classmates had created. Thinking of a idea that's different and out of the ordinary was extremely difficult and it was the part that I hated most about this project.

4. I am satisfied with my project because even though it is not that abstract; it represents my idea and the way I translate art which is perfectly fine to me. You could hate it or love it but as long as I am satisfied with what I created, I am happy. With this project yes I was satisfied because it exceeded my expectations and actually came out beautiful in my eyes.

5. One thing I would change about this project would be that I would have the beginning of the S start at the border because the stream looks like it is in mid air and I would have liked for it to like the stream was a  part of a flow of water and not just appearing magically from the darkness. That is the one thing if I could go back, I would change about my project.

What Inspires Me?

This video inspired me because I love basketball. I came to love basketball when I was in sixth grade and it has still stuck with me. I love basketball because it is a team sport. This specific video inspired me because it revealed to me that my personal basketball goals should be to strive in doing what I want to accomplish in my basketball career. Even if its just to score at least 5 points a game or to have the right form in shooting; then that is fine as long as you complete what you wanted to complete as an individual player. Although basketball is a team sport; the point is not to be the best but it is to give your all and as long as you have accomplished what you have been striving for, you have won. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F75tlBo0NT4

My Letter Project Process Pictures

The first picture is during the process of making the final piece. I already had colored the background and made the design that goes around the S which were grass and rocks. The reason why I started the background first and the design around the S was because inside the S i was going to use pastels and I did not want the pastels to rub off on the rest of the piece while I was working on it so first I started with the design around the S which was grass and rocks created with two materials; pencil and color pencils. Next I made the background using sharpie.

Lastly I colored inside the S with three pastel colors; green, light blue, and dark blue. There you have it. My final piece was created.
